finally got the car out of the mound of snow in the metro parking lot last night. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. yesterday at work was the first 'real' day of operations after the snow storm and resulting cancellations. things worked out surprisingly well. apparently, though, we had TRIPLE ops with all three planes on the ground and in three consecutive gates at once. we survived.

the biggest drama of all occurred last yesterday while trying to get to work. since the car was at the metro station since saturday, i thought i'd just hop on a bus to get to the metro station on tuesday AM. not that easy ... buses were indeed running but on a sunday schedule. i don't get bus service in my neighborhood on sundays. i proceeded to WALK approximately 3 miles in the slush and wet snow. once i got to the train station -- i see the car in all it's glory in the apperance of a big mound of snow. needless to say, i didn't attempt to dig it out just yet. i go straight to the station and wait for the train. i waited and waited and waited ... about 40 minutes. it finally came and i proceeded to rosslyn metro. i didn't get out of the station until about 12:47 -- just a few minutes after it was scheduled. i waited until about 8 minutes after just in case it was 'running late'. IT WAS RUNNING LATE. oh well -- the next one was scheduled to arrive in an hour so i just went on to chipotle to eat lunch. after a yummy burrito, i waited and waited and waited again. the bus never came but what did arrive, though, was the bus coming from the airport. we thought it would turn around but it never did. we waited and waited again for another hour to only find yet another bus coming from the airport. we asked the driver if he was going to turn around -- he said yes and since we were waiting out in the cold for so long, he allowed us to hop on and make the turnaround trip. on our way, finally, to the airport -- the bus literally breaks down just about 20 minutes from the airport. the engine literally stopped working. a replacement bus comes and i finally get to work at the airport a whole 5 hours later. dedication, eh?
