Love is Love

Official Culture Club Website

it's no secret that i'm at the lovely age of 37! yes, i'm an old man. today at best buy, i bought CULTURE CLUB'S GREATEST HITS on dvd. talk about sending me back into "gee, i remember back in the day" mode! i think i've lived a colorful life. i graduated high school in 1986 and living through the 80's (practically) unscathed in itself is something short of a miracle i think. i didn't drink alcohol until well into my late teens AFTER high school. jeez -- i didn't even try *drugs* until i was in my early 30's! back in the 80's , i was such a new waver. then -- uk pop music that no one else knew was considered new wave. i didn't dress up or anything except have a little rat tail a la Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins though. in hindsight, i sorta hung out with the *punk rock* kids. wow -- little did i know -- that was the easiest way for the gay boys to look weird and different and yet be left alone ... sort of. i was one of the kids with the cool music cutouts from START HITS magazine in my locker. (if i remember correctly -- madonna, erasure, depeche mode, bananarama, et. al. adorned my locker door.) anyway -- i digress. culture club, right? fast forward down the track listing i come across THE WAR SONG. let's discuss...yes, it was obviously an anti-war song. too bad neither the uk or the us was directly involved in a war at the time (1984) but it got it's message across. images of children in strife and post apocolyptic scenery aside. we mustn't forget the doomsday fashion runway overture! helleaux! wurQ me goddammit boy george, but that was just fucking fierce! i think the first ever pre-vogueing runway sequence in a music video. LOL. as i digress again, i'll leave you with one of my favorite boy george penned songs: "Love is Love" taken from the movie ELECTRIC DREAMS. yes i'm cheezey. so what?!?
